In RBM course, I have learnt that in order to be an effective leader, I have to deliver or achieve the results I have set. This is through the activities that I will think of as a leader, engagement with others is highly needed for easy execution of the tasks at hand. no man is an island. in order to achieve, we leaders must engage our teams to work together.
this goes together with what we have learnt in the leadership webinar last week, that a leader is the one that engage others to solve problems. this will also allow the team members to give out their full potential in terms of skills and experience which the leader must count as assets toward fulfilling the required results. the team members also work best when their efforts are appreciated by their leader.
    thank you

From what you have understood, what is the difference between Strategic Planning and Strategic management? How would you distinguish these two?

Strategic planning is process of formulating a strategies, implementing the strategies and evaluating the results but strategic management is the overall process from planning to planning execution and its involve making adjustments as you see there are some areas in the plan that needed changes

strategic planning sets the long-term goal and initial strategies, while strategic management involves the day-to-day execution and adjustments necessary to achieve the desired result.

Strategic Planning is the initial stage of the strategic management process, which involves setting goals, doing environmental analysis, and developing strategies to achieve the objectives you have. it’s more about deciding what to do and why it needs to be done. Strategic management is the process that includes planning. It involves the implementation, monitoring, and adaptation of the strategic plan. So, it intends to put the strategy planned into action and manage the resources to achieve the outcomes that are intended.

Strategic Planning is the process of setting organizational goals, determining strategies to achieve those goals, and creating action plans. It focuses on the formulation of strategies. Strategic Management, on the other hand, is the ongoing process of implementing and monitoring the strategies developed during strategic planning. It involves execution, evaluation, and adjustments as needed. In short, strategic planning is about deciding what to do, while strategic management is about doing it and adapting as circumstances change.

Strategic planning is about deciding where to go and what path to take, while strategic management is about actually following that path, and making adjustments along the way to ensure you reach your destination successfully.
    Thank you!

Thank you @Hellen, @Anifa, @Irene, @Levina, @Hilda for your discussion points. Yu have gained overall concept between the two. Just to add, you can do routine management but not necessarily strategic management. So the question is what does the word “strategic” entails in other words what magic does it bring? Scalars refer to strategic to mean identification of long-term or overall aims and interests and the means of achieving them. So if you are strategically managing, you should be able to clearly identify the results ( Outputs, Outcomes and impact) then identify strategies, inputs and activities to accomplish them. Constantly check if you are implementing what you planned at right time, making adjustments where necessary and the quality of your results etc.

With this definition and additional notes, would you rate your self ( in a scale of 1-10) the extent at which you are strategically managing your current project?

Strategic planning differs from strategic management in a way that in Strategic planning we come up with the long term goals and road map on what activities will be done, how will they be done so that the results will be achieved while in strategic management there is evaluation of the activities and the resources at hand, to monitor the possibility of achieving the results by using the activities and resources also there is a room to change, abort or modify the plans with the ambition to reach the goals set.
Strategic planning alone does not guarantee the attainment of the results but strategic management does. We see in government and private institutions that strategic plans are written, activities identified and resources given, but poor management (such as corruption, misallocation of funds) lead to poor results.

a simple definition of result is when you see or experience what was expected or desired to happen during planning has happened accordingly.

At my office in August we planned that by end of August all staffs sitting in the ground floor must be re alocated in the first floor confortably. I was the champion in that and therefore my goal was all staffs to fit and be reallocated in the first floor comfortably. series of actions where taken during August but finally as we speak all staffs have settled in the first floor and working comfortably.

strategic planning is the way how you arrange means and ideas of how you are going to be effective and efficiency in reaching out your goals while strategic management is how you oversee the implementation process of strategies you opt to employ

From the session we had, I can say planning is the important part. Planning paves the waywhich you will navigate throughout the whole duration of project management. Also during planning you will set clear project objectives, assess the risks and allocate resources for the project to run smoothly.

I can say programming which is in the initiation phase is the very important part in the project cycle management, because in here is were we are suppose to identify need, problem, opportunities, and brainstorm ways of implementation.
